- 2 cups fresh watermelon, cubed
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, plus extra for garnish
- 2 oz tequila
- 1 oz triple sec (or orange liqueur)
- 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
- 1/2 oz simple syrup (optional, adjust to taste)

Instructions
- Prepare the glass: If rimming the glass, rub a lime wedge around the rim and dip it in salt or sugar. Set aside.
- Blend the watermelon: In a blender, combine watermelon cubes and blend until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher to remove pulp.
- Muddle the basil: In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle basil leaves to release their flavor.
- Mix the cocktail: Add tequila, triple sec, lime juice, simple syrup (if using), and 3 oz of watermelon juice to the shaker. Fill with ice and shake well for about 20 seconds.
- Serve: Strain the margarita into the prepared glass over ice. Garnish with a fresh basil leaf and a small watermelon wedge.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less simple syrup.
- For a smoky twist, substitute tequila with mezcal.
- Use seedless watermelon for easier preparation.
