Description

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Spices and Seasonings:

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Sauce and Base:

  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 (15 oz each) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 (30 oz each) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 bay leaf

Seasoning:

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil: In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Cook turkey: Add ground turkey and cook until browned.
  3. Add vegetables: Stir in onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook until vegetables are softened.
  4. Season: Add chili powder, cumin, oregano, cinnamon, and cocoa powder. Stir well.
  5. Combine: Mix in tomato paste, black beans, crushed tomatoes, and chicken broth. Add bay leaf.
  6. Simmer: Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Adjust seasoning: Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve: Serve hot and enjoy!
