Units
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or American cheese)
- 10–12 egg roll wrappers
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for brushing)
- Cooking oil for frying (or use an air fryer)
Instructions
- Cook the Beef:
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat. - Add Seasonings and Sauce:
To the cooked beef, add the chopped onion, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine and cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken. - Assemble the Egg Rolls:
Remove the skillet from the heat and let the beef mixture cool slightly. Once cooled, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese. Lay out the egg roll wrappers on a clean surface, placing one wrapper at a time with a corner pointing towards you. Spoon about 2-3 tablespoons of the beef mixture onto the center of the wrapper. - Roll the Egg Rolls:
Fold the sides of the wrapper in towards the center, then tightly roll the wrapper from the bottom, sealing the edge with a little water to keep it closed. - Cook the Egg Rolls:
For frying: Heat about 2 inches of cooking oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Fry the egg rolls in batches, turning occasionally, for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
For air frying: Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly brush the egg rolls with vegetable oil and air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden and crispy. - Serve:
Let the egg rolls cool for a minute before serving with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, mustard, or a special sauce.
Notes
- You can add chopped pickles to the beef mixture for an extra layer of flavor.
- For a spicier version, add a little hot sauce to the beef mixture.
- These can be made ahead of time and frozen before frying. Just fry them directly from frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes of cooking time.
