- 1 tbsp butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions
- Activate the Yeast:
-
- In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
-
Make the Dough:
- In a large bowl (or stand mixer with a dough hook), combine flour, salt, and dry milk powder.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
-
Knead the Dough:
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If using a stand mixer, knead on medium speed for about 5 minutes.
-
First Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
-
Shape the Loaves:
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a 6-8 inch log and place on a lined baking sheet.

Second Rise:
- Cover loosely and let rise for another 30–45 minutes until puffy.
-
Add the Herb & Cheese Topping:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops of the risen loaves with melted butter.
- Mix together garlic powder, oregano, basil, parsley, and onion powder, then sprinkle over the bread.
- Top generously with shredded cheese.
-
Bake the Bread:
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until golden brown and cheese is melted.
- Let cool slightly before slicing.
-
Enjoy!
- Use for sandwiches, toast with butter, or make homemade garlic bread!
Notes
- For extra softness, brush the warm bread with more melted butter after baking.
- Use different cheeses like cheddar, provolone, or gouda for a flavor twist.
- Store at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
