Description

Southern goulash is a comforting one-pot meal with ground chuck, macaroni, and a flavorful tomato sauce, topped with a cheesy finish.


Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

    • 1 lb ground chuck
    • 1 md onion, chopped
    • 1/3 c red or green bell pepper, chopped
    • 2 c elbow macaroni, uncooked
    • 1 can stewed tomatoes, 15 oz
    • 1 can tomato sauce, 15 oz
    • 4 c water

Seasonings:

    • 1 Tbsp sugar
    • 1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
    • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tsp seasoning salt
    • 1 tsp garlic salt
    • 1 tsp black pepper
    • 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning (optional)
    • dash of tobasco

Cheese:

  • 1/2 c grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 c cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Brown Meat: In a large pot, cook ground chuck with onion and bell pepper until meat is browned.
  2. Add Ingredients: Stir in macaroni, stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and all seasonings.
  3. Simmer: Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes until macaroni is tender.
  4. Cheese Topping: Sprinkle Parmesan and cheddar cheese over the goulash, cover, and let it melt.
  5. Serve: Dish out and enjoy the cheesy goodness of southern goulash.

Notes

  • You can customize the level of spiciness by adjusting the Cajun seasoning or adding more tobasco.
