Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Sesame Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (to thicken the sauce)

For Garnish:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Prep the Chicken

    • In a bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper.

    • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs.

    • Dredge the chicken pieces in the egg, then coat evenly in the flour mixture.

  2. Cook the Chicken

    • Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat.

    • Fry the chicken in batches for 4-5 minutes per batch, until golden and crispy.

    • Remove and drain on paper towels.

  3. Make the Sesame Sauce

    • In a saucepan, heat sesame oil over medium heat.

    • Add garlic and ginger, sauté until fragrant (about 30 seconds).

    • Stir in soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, and rice vinegar.

    • Simmer for 2-3 minutes, then stir in cornstarch slurry to thicken.

  4. Toss the Chicken

    • Add the crispy chicken to the pan with the sauce.

    • Toss until evenly coated.

  5. Garnish and Serve

    • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.

    • Serve immediately over steamed rice or with stir-fried vegetables.

Notes

  • Use chicken thighs for extra juiciness.
  • Double-fry the chicken for an extra crispy texture.
  • Don’t skip the sesame oil—it adds a rich, nutty depth of flavor.
