Description

Scotch Eggs are a classic British snack that features a hard-boiled egg encased in flavorful sausage meat and crispy breadcrumbs. This recipe is perfect for a picnic or as a tasty appetizer.

Ingredients

– 4 large eggs

– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

– 1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika

– 2 large eggs, beaten

– 1 cup breadcrumbs

– 1 pound breakfast sausage

– Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

1. Place the 4 eggs in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 9 minutes. Remove from heat, cool in ice water, then peel.

2. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, pepper, and paprika. Divide sausage into 4 portions, flatten each portion, and wrap around each egg.

3. Dip each sausage-coated egg in flour mixture, then beaten eggs, and finally breadcrumbs.

4. Heat oil in a pan and fry each Scotch egg until golden brown and cooked through.

5. Serve hot or cold, sliced in half to reveal the delicious center.

Notes

– For a spicy twist, add some cayenne pepper to the sausage mixture.

– To make a healthier version, try baking the Scotch eggs instead of frying.
