These Savory Ham and Cheese Butter Biscuits are light, fluffy, and filled with savory goodness. Made with buttery, flaky layers, and packed with ham and cheese, they’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, o

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced ham (cooked)
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (or milk, if preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Add the cold cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham.
  5. Pour in the buttermilk and stir until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in dense biscuits.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out rounds of dough and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Serve warm, and enjoy!

Notes

  • For an even cheesier biscuit, add more shredded cheddar or a combination of cheeses.
  • You can substitute the ham with cooked bacon or sausage for a different twist.
  • These biscuits are best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
