Main Ingredients:
- 1 (16 oz) loaf marbled rye bread, cubed
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 granny smith apple, diced
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- salt and pepper to taste
- 3 garlic cloves, pressed
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 1/2 tablespoons dried sage
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 1/2 cups vegetable broth
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Saute Vegetables: In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add onion, apple, celery, salt, and pepper. Cook until softened.
- Add Flavors: Stir in garlic, thyme, sage, and parsley. Cook for an additional minute.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the sauteed mixture with rye bread cubes. Pour in beaten egg and vegetable broth. Mix until well combined.
- Bake: Transfer the mixture to a baking dish. Dot the top with remaining butter. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden.
Notes
- This stuffing can be prepared ahead and baked when needed.
- For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth.
