Description

These patty melts are a classic comfort food with a twist! Juicy ground beef patty topped with a blend of Swiss and cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and a secret sauce, all sandwiched between slices of rye bread and grilled to perfection.

Ingredients

Units Scale

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • Butter, for grilling
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, pickle relish, and Worcestershire sauce. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Patty and Onions: Season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then shape into patties. Cook the patties in a skillet over medium heat until cooked through. In the same skillet, caramelize the sliced onions.
  3. Assemble the Patty Melts: Butter one side of each rye bread slice. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on four bread slices, followed by a cooked patty, caramelized onions, a slice of cheddar cheese, and another bread slice, butter side up.
  4. Grill the Patty Melts: Grill the assembled sandwiches in a skillet until the bread is toasted, and the cheese is melted. Serve hot with the secret sauce on the side.

Notes

  • You can customize the patty melts by adding pickles, mustard, or other toppings of your choice.
  • For a lighter version, you can use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef.
