Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Meatballs:
    • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
    • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
    • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1 egg
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (or 1 tsp dried)
    • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • For the Sandwiches:
    • 4-6 sub rolls or hoagie buns
    • 2 cups marinara sauce
    • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
    • 2 tbsp butter, melted (optional, for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs:
    1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
    3. Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
    4. Bake for 20 minutes, or until cooked through.
  2. Assemble the Sandwiches:
    1. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F (175°C).
    2. Slice the rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through, and arrange them on a baking dish or sheet.
    3. Spread a layer of marinara sauce inside each roll, place 3–4 meatballs in each, and top with more marinara sauce. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the meatballs and add Parmesan cheese if desired.
  3. Bake the Sandwiches:
    1. Bake the assembled sandwiches for 10–12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. For an extra golden top, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.
    2. Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter for added flavor.
  4. Serve:
    1. Serve warm with a side of marinara sauce for dipping or a fresh salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Add sautéed onions, peppers, or mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • For a crispy crust, toast the rolls lightly before assembling.
