Description

Soft, buttery, and perfectly seasoned, these homemade Olive Garden-style breadsticks are light, fluffy, and brushed with irresistible garlic butter. They make the perfect side for pasta, soups, or salads and are surprisingly easy to make with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Dough

  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

For the Garlic Butter Topping

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in melted butter and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.

  1. Knead and Let It Rise

Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  1. Shape the Breadsticks

Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 7-inch breadstick and place them on a lined baking sheet.

  1. Second Rise and Bake

Cover and let the shaped breadsticks rise for 30 minutes until slightly puffy. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

  1. Brush with Garlic Butter

Mix melted butter with garlic powder and salt. Brush over warm breadsticks immediately after baking.

Notes

  • For a chewier texture: Use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • For extra flavor: Add a sprinkle of parmesan cheese or Italian seasoning to the garlic butter.
  • For a dairy-free version: Substitute milk and butter with non-dairy alternatives like almond milk and vegan butter.
