Ingredients
For the Dough
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
For the Garlic Butter Topping
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Stir in melted butter and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead and Let It Rise
Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Breadsticks
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 7-inch breadstick and place them on a lined baking sheet.
- Second Rise and Bake
Cover and let the shaped breadsticks rise for 30 minutes until slightly puffy. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with Garlic Butter
Mix melted butter with garlic powder and salt. Brush over warm breadsticks immediately after baking.
Notes
- For a chewier texture: Use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
- For extra flavor: Add a sprinkle of parmesan cheese or Italian seasoning to the garlic butter.
- For a dairy-free version: Substitute milk and butter with non-dairy alternatives like almond milk and vegan butter.
