Description

This Lebanese Lemon Garlic Chicken recipe is a flavorful dish inspired by Al Aseel. Tender chicken pieces are marinated in a zesty lemon garlic sauce, grilled to perfection, and served with a creamy yogurt sauce.


Ingredients

Chicken:

  • 500g/ 1lb chicken tenderloin (or breast), cut into 4cm / 1.5″ squares, large vein cut out

Lemon garlic marinade:

  • 4 tbsp Greek or plain yogurt
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp garlic, finely grated or crushed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp cooking salt

Lemon garlic yogurt sauce:

  • 1 cup Greek or plain yogurt
  • 3/4 tsp garlic, finely grated or crushed
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp tahini or extra 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp+ water
  • 1 tsp cooking salt

Cooking & serving:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp parsley, roughly chopped
  • Lemon wedges and extra virgin olive oil, for garnish
  • Lebanese bread for sauce mopping

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken: Combine chicken with lemon garlic marinade ingredients in a bowl. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Make the yogurt sauce: Mix all yogurt sauce ingredients together in a bowl. Adjust consistency with water as needed.
  3. Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a grill pan. Cook marinated chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Serve: Serve the grilled chicken with lemon garlic yogurt sauce, parsley, lemon wedges, and Lebanese bread.

Notes

  • You can also skewer the marinated chicken and grill for a different presentation.
  • Adjust the level of garlic to suit your taste preferences.
