Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Pastry:

    • 2 sheets refrigerated puff pastry (or homemade pastry dough)
    • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

    For the Filling:

    • 4 large eggs, scrambled
    • 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon or sausage
    • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
    • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
    • Salt and pepper, to taste
    • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)

    For the Glaze (optional):

    • 2 tbsp melted butter
    • 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
    • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pastry:

    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into rectangles, about 4×6 inches each, to form the base and top of each Pop-Tart.
    3. Place one rectangle on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

    Make the Filling:

    1. In a bowl, whisk the eggs and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder if using. Scramble the eggs in a pan over medium heat, stirring frequently, until fully cooked.
    2. Remove from heat and stir in the cooked bacon or sausage and cheddar cheese until well combined.
    3. Add cream cheese and mix until melted and smooth.

    Assemble the Pop-Tarts:

    1. Spoon the scrambled egg mixture onto the center of each pastry rectangle, leaving a small border around the edges.
    2. Place a second pastry rectangle on top of the filling. Use a fork to press the edges of the pastry together to seal the Pop-Tart.
    3. Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden finish.

    Bake:

    1. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown and puffed.
    2. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.

    Glaze (optional):

    1. In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder (if using) and brush over the top of the Pop-Tarts.
    2. Garnish with fresh herbs like chives or parsley for a little extra flavor and color.

    Serve:

Serve warm, and enjoy your savory breakfast Pop-Tarts with a side of fresh fruit or a salad!

Notes

  • Feel free to swap the filling ingredients. Try adding sautéed vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or peppers for a veggie version.
  • For a dairy-free version, omit the cream cheese and cheese or use dairy-free alternatives.
  • These can be made ahead of time, frozen, and baked later for an easy breakfast option.
