This comforting and satisfying dish combines tender, juicy steak bites coated in rich garlic butter with creamy, fluffy mashed potatoes. Perfect for a cozy dinner or a quick weeknight meal, itโ€™s a recipe that will leave everyone reaching for seconds.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Steak Bites:

  • 1 lb (450g) sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme or parsley (optional, for garnish)

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 4 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream (or milk)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
    1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the diced potatoes and cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
    2. Drain and mash the potatoes with butter, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese (if using). Season with salt and pepper. Cover to keep warm.
  2. Cook the Steak Bites:
    1. Pat the steak pieces dry with a paper towel and season with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
    2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak bites in a single layer, cooking for about 2 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
    3. Lower the heat, add butter to the same skillet, and let it melt. Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
    4. Return the steak bites to the skillet and toss to coat in the garlic butter. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, then garnish with fresh thyme or parsley if desired.
  3. Assemble:
    1. Serve the garlic butter steak bites over the creamy mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • For a lighter version of the mashed potatoes, you can substitute heavy cream with milk or half-and-half.
  • Ensure the steak is at room temperature before cooking for even searing.
  • Adjust the amount of garlic in both recipes according to your preference.
