Description
This Easy Wonton Soup is a light and flavorful dish that comes together in no time. Featuring tender wontons in a savory broth with fresh vegetables and classic Asian flavors, it’s perfect as a comforting appetizer or a quick and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- Frozen or homemade wontons (pork, shrimp, or vegetarian)
- Chicken or vegetable broth
- Soy sauce
- Sesame oil
- Garlic, minced
- Ginger, grated or minced
- Bok choy or Napa cabbage, chopped
- Green onions, sliced
- Optional: mushrooms, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Garnish: sesame seeds or fresh cilantro
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat a small amount of sesame oil over medium heat. Sauté the minced garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the chicken or vegetable broth and bring it to a gentle boil.
- Stir in soy sauce and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
- Reduce heat to medium and gently add the frozen or fresh wontons to the simmering broth. Cook according to package instructions or until wontons float to the top (usually 3-5 minutes).
- Add bok choy, cabbage, or other vegetables, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until tender.
- Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, or cilantro before serving.
Notes
- For an extra kick, add a drizzle of chili oil or a dash of white pepper.
- If making wontons from scratch, prep and freeze them ahead of time for easy soup assembly.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but the wontons may absorb the broth and soften further.
