Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Guinness Sauce:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup Guinness beer (or beef broth)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • For the Burger Patties:

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Other Ingredients:

  • 4 slices sharp Irish cheddar cheese
  • 4 brioche buns, buttered and toasted
  • 8 slices crispy bacon
  • 1 cup caramelized onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Guinness Sauce: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Stir in Guinness beer, heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Burger Patties: In a bowl, mix ground beef, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Form into 4 equal patties and make a small indentation in the center of each.

  3. Cook the Burgers: Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side, adding cheddar cheese during the last minute to melt.

  4. Toast the Buns: While burgers cook, toast brioche buns in a dry pan or on the grill for 1-2 minutes until golden.

  5. Assemble the Burgers: Spread Guinness sauce on the bottom bun. Add the cheddar-topped burger, crispy bacon, and caramelized onions. Drizzle with extra sauce and top with the toasted bun.

Notes

  • Substitutions: Swap ground beef for lamb or turkey, or use Swiss cheese instead of cheddar.
  • Make it Healthier: Use ground turkey, skip the bacon, and swap the bun for a lettuce wrap.
  • No Beer Option: Substitute Guinness with beef broth or apple cider
