Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Crust:
    • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
    • 3/4 cup warm water
    • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • For the Sauce:
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
    • 1 tsp dried oregano
    • 1/2 tsp dried basil
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Filling:
    • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
    • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni or cooked sausage (optional)
    • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
    • 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers or spinach (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough:
    1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
    3. Knead on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    1. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sautéing until softened.
    2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, then set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Assemble the Pizza Pie:
    1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
    2. Roll out the dough into a circle slightly larger than your 9-inch deep-dish pan. Press the dough into the pan, letting it come up the sides.
    3. Layer half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on the bottom of the crust. Add your desired toppings (pepperoni, vegetables, etc.).
    4. Spread the tomato sauce over the toppings and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  4. Bake:
    1. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly. Let cool for 5 minutes before slicing.
  5. Serve:
    1. Slice and serve hot with a side of marinara or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • Customize the toppings to your preference.
  • For extra crispiness, pre-bake the crust for 5 minutes before assembling.
