Description

This Crusty Italian Bread recipe will transport your taste buds to Italy with its crispy crust and soft interior. It’s perfect for dipping in olive oil or pairing with your favorite pasta dish.

Ingredients

– 4 cups all-purpose flour

– 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

– 1 teaspoon sugar

– 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)

– 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)

– 2 tablespoons olive oil

– Cornmeal for dusting

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.

2. Add warm water and olive oil, and mix until a dough forms.

3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes, then let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.

4. Shape the dough into a loaf, sprinkle cornmeal on a baking sheet, and place the loaf on top. Let it rise for another 30 minutes.

5. Preheat the oven, slash the top of the loaf, and bake at 400°F for 25-30 minutes.

Notes

– For a variation, sprinkle rosemary or garlic on top of the loaf before baking.

– To achieve a crispier crust, place a pan of water in the oven while baking
