- 4 tablespoons salted butter, softened, divided
- 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 2 ounces shredded Gruyère cheese

- 4 slices white bread, lightly toasted
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 2 thin slices Black Forest ham
- 2 large eggs

- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh dill, or to taste (Optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter, whisk in flour, then gradually pour in milk. Cook until thickened. Add Gruyère, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Spread mustard on bread slices, add ham, sauce, and another slice of bread.
- Cook the sandwiches: In a skillet, melt remaining butter and fry sandwiches until golden brown.
- Add the final touches: Fry eggs, place on top of sandwiches, garnish with dill, and serve.
