Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Honey Garlic Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)

For Garnish:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    1. In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
    2. Dip each piece of chicken into the beaten eggs, then coat with the flour mixture.
    3. Repeat for all chicken pieces and set aside.
  2. Fry the Chicken:
    1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
    2. Fry the chicken pieces in batches, ensuring they do not overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
    3. Remove the chicken and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce:
    1. In a saucepan, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.
    2. Add honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar to the pan, stirring to combine.
    3. Bring the sauce to a simmer and add the cornstarch slurry, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens (about 2 minutes).
  4. Coat the Chicken:
    1. Add the fried chicken to the saucepan with the honey garlic sauce. Toss to coat evenly.
    2. Serve:
      1. Transfer the chicken to a serving plate. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
      2. Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For an extra crispy texture, double-fry the chicken by frying it once, letting it rest, and then frying it a second time briefly.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey to taste.
