- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Honey Garlic Sauce:
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
For Garnish:
- Sesame seeds
- Chopped green onions
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken:
- In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, salt, and pepper.
- Dip each piece of chicken into the beaten eggs, then coat with the flour mixture.
- Repeat for all chicken pieces and set aside.
- Fry the Chicken:
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Fry the chicken pieces in batches, ensuring they do not overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove the chicken and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Make the Honey Garlic Sauce:
- In a saucepan, heat sesame oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar to the pan, stirring to combine.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer and add the cornstarch slurry, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens (about 2 minutes).
- Coat the Chicken:
- Add the fried chicken to the saucepan with the honey garlic sauce. Toss to coat evenly.
- Serve:
- Transfer the chicken to a serving plate. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
- Serve immediately with steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- For an extra crispy texture, double-fry the chicken by frying it once, letting it rest, and then frying it a second time briefly.
- Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey to taste.
