Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, salt, garlic powder, oregano, basil, rosemary, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine.
  2. Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Mix to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a loaf and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Sprinkle the tops of the loaves with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Brush the baked loaves with melted butter and garnish with fresh chopped parsley.
  10. Let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Serve with your favorite sandwich fillings or enjoy as a side.

Notes

If you want a more pronounced cheese flavor, you can mix in extra cheese into the dough before baking. You can also use Italian seasoning instead of the individual dried herbs for a quicker option.
