- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 cup warm water (110°F)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, salt, garlic powder, oregano, basil, rosemary, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine.
- Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Mix to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a loaf and place them on a greased baking sheet.
- Sprinkle the tops of the loaves with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Brush the baked loaves with melted butter and garnish with fresh chopped parsley.
- Let the bread cool slightly before slicing. Serve with your favorite sandwich fillings or enjoy as a side.
Notes
If you want a more pronounced cheese flavor, you can mix in extra cheese into the dough before baking. You can also use Italian seasoning instead of the individual dried herbs for a quicker option.
