- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 6 cups cubed bread (day-old or slightly toasted)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook the Sausage:
- In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
- Mix the Egg Mixture:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Assemble the Casserole:
- Spread the cubed bread evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the bread.
- Pour the egg mixture over the top, ensuring all the bread is soaked.
- Sprinkle the cheddar and mozzarella cheese evenly over the casserole.
- Bake:
- Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the casserole is set in the center and the top is golden and bubbly.
- Serve:
- Let the casserole cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired.
Notes
- For a make-ahead option, assemble the casserole the night before and refrigerate. Let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before baking.
- Add vegetables like sautéed bell peppers, spinach, or mushrooms for extra nutrition and flavor.
- Substitute the sausage with cooked bacon, ham, or a plant-based alternative for variety.
