Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Base:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the Peanut Butter Topping:

  • 8 ounces (227g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (125g) creamy peanut butter
  • 2 cups (250g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  • Prepare the Base:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
    • In a large bowl, mix together the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and 1 egg until well combined.
    • Press the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
  • Make the Peanut Butter Topping:

    • In another bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, peanut butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and the remaining 2 eggs until smooth and creamy.
  • Spread and Bake:

    • Pour the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate cake base and spread evenly.
    • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is still slightly gooey.
  • Cool and Serve:

    • Let the bars cool completely before slicing. Enjoy warm for a gooey texture or chilled for a firmer bite.

Notes

  • For a more decadent touch, sprinkle chopped peanut butter cups or drizzle melted chocolate on top.
  • If you prefer an even gooier texture, reduce the baking time slightly.
  • Store these in the fridge because of the cream cheese content.
