Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
    1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Dough:
    1. In a separate large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
    2. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
    3. Stir in the vanilla extract and blend until combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until a dough forms.
    2. If desired, fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips for an extra chocolatey bite.
  5. Roll the Dough:
    1. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls.
    2. Roll each ball in powdered sugar until fully coated, then place them on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake:
    1. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cookies have spread slightly and the tops have cracked.
    2. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Make sure the dough is cold before rolling it to prevent sticking.
  • You can chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  • For a festive twist, add a sprinkle of sea salt on top of the powdered sugar before baking.
