Description

This Chicken Philly Cheesesteak recipe combines tender chicken breast with sweet bell peppers, onions, and melty provolone cheese on a hoagie roll, creating a flavorful and satisfying sandwich.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Chicken Filling:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Vegetables:

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, thinly sliced

For the Sandwich:

  • 4 hoagie rolls, sliced open
  • 8 slices provolone or American cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken: In a bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss chicken slices in the seasoning mix.
  2. Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add seasoned chicken and cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Saute the vegetables: In the same skillet, add onion and bell peppers. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Assemble the sandwich: On each hoagie roll, layer chicken, sauteed vegetables, and cheese slices. Spread butter on the outside of the rolls.
  5. Grill the sandwich: Heat a panini press or skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches in the press or skillet and cook until the bread is crispy and the cheese is melted, about 5 minutes per side.
  6. Serve: Cut the sandwiches in half and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can customize this recipe by adding mushrooms, jalapenos, or other favorite toppings.
  • For a smokier flavor, use smoked provolone cheese.
