Description

This Chicken Gyro recipe features marinated chicken thighs seasoned with Mediterranean spices, served with fresh lettuce, red onions, tomatoes, and optional tzatziki in warm pita bread.

For The Chicken:

  • 1/2 cup whole milk Greek yogurt
  • 4 cloves garlic, grated or minced
  • 1 lemon, zest and juice
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/41 tsp red pepper flake
  • 6 medium boneless skinless chicken thighs or 3 boneless chicken breasts, halved lengthwise

For serving:

  • 3 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1/2 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 beefsteak tomato, sliced
  • 4 large Pita flatbreads (optional)
  • Tzatziki (optional)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine yogurt, garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, cumin, onion powder, paprika, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, and red pepper flakes. Add chicken, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side until fully cooked.
  3. Assemble Gyros: Slice chicken and place on pita bread with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Add sliced cucumbers or olives for extra flavor.
  • You can use store-bought tzatziki for convenience.
