Description

A delicious twist on a classic Sloppy Joe! Savory, tangy beef in a rich tomato sauce, topped with melted cheese and served on buttery, garlic-toasted bread. These Cheesy Garlic Bread Sloppy Joe Melts are perfect for a comforting meal that’s full of flavor.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 8 slices of thick-cut bread (such as French bread or Italian bread)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (for the garlic butter)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Add diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion softens, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes until thickened.
  3. While the beef mixture simmers, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic. Spread the garlic butter evenly on both sides of each bread slice.
  5. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet and toast in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Once the bread is toasted, spoon a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe mixture onto each slice. Top with a sprinkle of mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  7. Return the sandwiches to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Add pickles or jalapeños for extra flavor and crunch.
  • Use different cheese combinations like provolone or Gouda for a unique twist.
  • For a healthier version, use whole wheat or gluten-free bread.
