Description

This Caramelized Onion & Apple Grilled Cheese Sandwich combines the sweetness of caramelized onions and apples with gooey cheddar and creamy brie, all sandwiched between crispy sourdough bread.

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
  • 6 tablespoon unsalted butter, divided, room temp
  • 1 honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced 1/2 inch thick
  • 8 oz cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 oz brie cheese, sliced into 1/2″ slivers
  • 2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Caramelize Onions: Heat 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet, add onions, and cook over low heat until golden brown.
  2. Prepare Apples: In a separate pan, sauté apple slices with olive oil until slightly softened.
  3. Assemble Sandwich: Butter one side of each bread slice. Layer cheddar, brie, caramelized onions, apples, sage, and a sprinkle of salt between bread slices.
  4. Grill: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook sandwiches until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted.

Notes
