This Caramelized Onion & Apple Grilled Cheese Sandwich combines the sweetness of caramelized onions and apples with gooey cheddar and creamy brie, all sandwiched between crispy sourdough bread.

Ingredients:
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
- 6 tablespoon unsalted butter, divided, room temp
- 1 honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
- 2 large yellow onions, sliced 1/2 inch thick
- 8 oz cheddar cheese, grated
- 2 oz brie cheese, sliced into 1/2″ slivers
- 2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: Heat 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet, add onions, and cook over low heat until golden brown.
- Prepare Apples: In a separate pan, sauté apple slices with olive oil until slightly softened.
- Assemble Sandwich: Butter one side of each bread slice. Layer cheddar, brie, caramelized onions, apples, sage, and a sprinkle of salt between bread slices.
- Grill: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook sandwiches until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a drizzle of balsamic glaze or a sprinkle of crispy bacon to the sandwich.
