Description

These adorable bunny-shaped buns are soft, fluffy, and perfect for Easter! They make a fun addition to your holiday table, whether served with butter, jam, or as a side for dinner. Kids and adults alike will love these cute and tasty treats!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for a slightly sweet flavor)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for greasing)
  • 1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Black sesame seeds or mini chocolate chips (for eyes)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle the yeast over it. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Grease a large bowl with vegetable oil and place the dough inside. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Bunnies: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into an oval shape for the bunny body. Use scissors to snip two small ears at the top of each piece. Poke two sesame seeds or chocolate chips into the dough for eyes.
  6. Second Rise: Place the shaped buns onto a lined baking sheet, cover lightly, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Egg Wash & Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush each bun with egg wash and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool & Serve: Let the buns cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy with butter, jam, or honey!

Notes

  • If you want a sweeter version, add an extra tablespoon of sugar.
  • These can be made ahead! Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze and reheat before serving.
  • Add a tiny dough ball as a “bunny tail” for extra cuteness!
