Description

Tender, juicy chicken breasts smothered in a rich, flavorful gravy with caramelized onions, garlic, and a touch of cream. This comforting Southern-inspired dish is perfect for family dinners and pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite veggies.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme (dried or fresh)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and paprika. Lightly dredge them in flour, shaking off any excess.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced onions. Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized.
  4. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the remaining flour and cook for another minute.
  5. Gradually whisk in chicken broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Add Worcestershire sauce and thyme, then bring the mixture to a simmer.
  6. Stir in heavy cream and return the chicken breasts to the skillet. Simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the gravy thickens.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • For added flavor, use bone-in chicken breasts. Adjust cooking time accordingly.
  • Substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or milk for a lighter version.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed veggies for a complete meal.
