Description

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup finely diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil (for deep frying)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter:
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
In a separate bowl, combine the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms. Fold in the diced apples.
  2. Heat the Oil:
In a deep skillet or saucepan, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain the temperature.
  3. Fry the Bites:
Drop tablespoon-sized portions of batter into the hot oil. Fry in batches, ensuring they don’t overcrowd. Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
  4. Make the Glaze:
In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed.
  5. Glaze and Serve:
Drizzle the glaze over the warm apple fritter bites or dip each fritter into the glaze for a more indulgent coating. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, double-fry the fritters by returning them to the oil for a quick second fry.
  • Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in an oven at 350°F for 5–7 minutes.
