Description

Air Fryer Bang Bang Chicken is a crispy, flavorful chicken dish that’s coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. The air fryer gives the chicken a golden, crunchy exterior while keeping it juicy on the inside. Paired with a creamy, tangy sauce made of mayo, sriracha, and honey, this dish is sure to be a hit for dinner or as an appetizer!

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray (for air frying)

For the Bang Bang Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp sriracha sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp sesame oil (optional for extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken:
    1. In one bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
    2. In a second bowl, beat the egg.
    3. In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
    4. Coat each piece of chicken first in the flour mixture, then dip in the beaten egg, and finally coat with the panko breadcrumbs. Set the breaded chicken aside.
  2. Cook the Chicken in the Air Fryer:
    1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
    2. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Arrange the breaded chicken pieces in a single layer in the basket (you may need to cook in batches).
    3. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the chicken is golden and crispy.
  3. Make the Bang Bang Sauce:
    1. While the chicken is cooking, whisk together the mayonnaise, sriracha sauce, honey, rice vinegar, garlic powder, and sesame oil (if using) in a bowl until smooth.
  4. Toss the Chicken in the Sauce:
    1. Once the chicken is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl. Pour the Bang Bang sauce over the chicken and toss gently to coat each piece.
  5. Serve:
    1. Serve the Air Fryer Bang Bang Chicken immediately, garnished with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired. It pairs wonderfully with rice or a side of veggies

Notes

  • For a less spicy version, reduce the amount of sriracha in the sauce and add more honey.
  • If you don’t have panko breadcrumbs, regular breadcrumbs can also work, but panko gives a crispier texture.
  • You can use chicken tenders instead of cutting chicken breasts into pieces for easier preparation.
